| Hughes Investments strives to be a good neighbor and responsible corporate citizen. Our President, Phil Hughes, contributes much of his own time and resources to the Greenville area. He has built positive relationships within the community by volunteering his time and resources to many civic projects. From leading the Red Cross through its capital campaign and expansion to orchestrating the conversion of Mcalister Square Mall into Greenville Technical College’s new University Center, Mr. Hughes enjoys applying his development skills for the benefit of the Upstate community.
Mr. Hughes continues to support the renewal of Heritage Green into a grand “Cultural Campus”. To promote this civic development, he has donated land at Heritage Green for the new Hughes Main Library and the History Museum of Upcountry South Carolina. Mr. Hughes also has donated buildings at Heritage Green for the Bob Jones University Museum and Art Gallery and the ImagineNation Children’s Museum.
Phil Hughes’ civic leadership and volunteerism leans towards education and the arts. This is evident from his participation on boards for Furman University, North Greenville University and USC Moore School of Business. He has been the driving force behind the creation of a monument and the laser project as a tribute Dr. Charles Townes, a Greenville native and Nobel Prize winner for the laser.
Hughes Investments, Inc. has a long history of patronizing the arts. Phil Hughes sits on the Board of Directors for the Peace Center and the Metropolitan Arts Council. He is a long-term supporter of Centre Stage and served on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce for many years as Chairman of the Southeast Area Council. As President of Friends of the Greenville Zoo, Mr. Hughes helped with the growth and expansion of our zoo.
Most recently, he is helping the Urban Land Institute initiate a local District network. He served as a national Urban Land Institute Trustee for six years and is currently a Governor of the Urban Land Foundation. |
